Conference Kickoff Keynote

Jim Rounds, Sr. VP and Sr. Economist, Elliott D. Pollack and Company

Jim Rounds is Senior Vice President and Senior Economist with Elliott D. Pollack and Company.  Mr. Rounds specializes in preparing economic analyses for both public and private sector organizations, including economic overviews related to the national and state economies.  Jim has extensive expertise in matters of economics, finance, rural and urban economic development, public policy, taxation, real estate analysis, affordable housing, and litigation. 

Recently, Mr. Rounds has also become a leading expert on matters of economic development in Pinal County and other parts of the Greater Phoenix area.  In addition, Jim has participated in General Plan updates in many communities throughout the Greater Phoenix area and has authored reports related to individual municipalities maximizing their economic development potential through strategic planning efforts.

Mr. Rounds has written and co-authored a number of articles for the Arizona and Greater Phoenix Blue Chip periodicals and has authored articles for the company’s website.  In addition to opining on the state of the economy through written format, Jim has delivered scores of presentations to national organizations, private companies, local civic organizations, universities, and legislative committees.  Jim has been quoted in the local print and television media, nationally recognized newspapers, and provides commentary on local radio programs.

Prior to his employment with Elliott D. Pollack and Company, Mr. Rounds served as a Senior Economist and Senior Budget Analyst with the Arizona Joint Legislative Budget Committee, the budget and economic analysis arm of the Arizona Legislature.  As an employee of the Arizona Legislature, Jim was responsible for analyzing and forecasting a variety of state taxes.  In addition to his tax analysis duties, Jim was responsible for analyzing dozens of state agency budgets. Mr. Rounds has a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Economics from Arizona State University.

Sharon Lechter

A life-long education advocate, Sharon Lechter is the co-author of the international best-selling book Rich Dad Poor Dad and the Rich Dad series of books, as well as one of the founders of the Rich Dad companies and inventor of the CASHFLOW for Kids board game.  She is an entrepreneur, philanthropist, educator, CPA, international speaker and mother.

During Sharon’s 11 years with the Rich Dad companies, they have grown into an international powerhouse with over 20 books, board games, Web sites, CDs, audio cassettes and seminars. Rich Dad Poor Dad has been on The New York Times Best Sellers List for over six years and is available in over 50 languages and sold in more than 108 countries. 

In 2007, Sharon left the managerial board of The Rich Dad Company to pursue focused work on financial education for children and families, as well as to continue work on improving our nation’s educational system. Sharon travels nationally and internationally to speak on a range of topics from educating children and adults on taking control of their personal finances to the entrepreneurial business strategies she used in building Rich Dad’s international success. 

On January 22nd, 2008, Sharon was appointed by President Bush to the President’s Council on Financial Literacy, to a two year term. She is a member of the Business Advisory Council for the Attorney General of the State of Arizona. She serves on the Dean’s Council 100 of the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University and is also a member of the advisory Board of the Spirit of Enterprise at the W.P. Carey School of Business, is an active member of Women’s Presidents Organization and serves on the national board of Childhelp, a national organization founded to prevent and treat child abuse. Sharon graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors from Florida State University with a degree in accounting, then joined the ranks of a Big Eight accounting firm.  Sharon has held various management positions with computer, insurance, and publishing companies while maintaining her professional credentials as a Wisconsin CPA, and a member of the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants).

Kim Dorney is the sixth Housing Director for the City of Phoenix.  She manages a staff of 170 employees and oversees a budget of $140 million.  The city’s Housing department owns more than 2,500 public and other assisted rental housing units and facilitates more than 5,000 housing choice vouchers.  The department is also responsible for the housing development and loan programs to create affordable rental, ownership and special needs housing opportunities. Dorney began her career with the city of Phoenix 25 years ago and has been in the Housing Department since July 2004.  She has previously worked in the Neighborhood Services and Community and Economic Development departments. Dorney holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of the Pacific and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Indiana University.

Presently, they invest full-time in the Valley's real estate market. They own 15 single-family residences, commercial property in the East Valley, a 10-acre ranch in Cave Creek, and a 32-acre parcel in north Scottsdale. Stuart enjoys teaching for AZREIA and National Real Estate Education Services, playing softball, and spending time with his children Joey , Sydni, and Bayli.

Since 1993, Stan has concentrated on raw land sales and development.  He has brokered or developed over 6000 acres in land transactions in excess of $100 million. The President of Williams & Associates, Mike Williams, began his career as a senior staff and legislative assistant to United States Senator John McCain.  He handled issues ranging from aviation affairs to public land trades.  He also served as Senator McCain’s liaison to all elected officials in the State of Arizona. This experience provided Mr. Williams with a large political base that he has effectively used to assist clients as well as candidates running for statewide or district office.  In particular, Mr. Williams has served in a number of election campaigns including those for the Governor, Senate President, Senate Majority Leader, Speaker of the House and House Majority Leader. In 1991, Mr. Williams was recruited by the Arizona Attorney General to form and direct an intergovernmental and legislative liaison division for the Attorney General’s office.  He served as the director of this division for two years acting as the liaison to more than 2,000 trade associations, Arizona businesses and the Arizona State Legislature. In 1993, Mr. Williams accepted a position with the Phoenix and Milwaukee law firm of Quarles & Brady.  While there, he served clients as a government and legislative relations advisor.  He represented and assisted clients including Ryder Truck Rental, MCO properties, the Plumbing Industry and Education Trust, Maryatt Industries, Honeywell, Miller Brewing and the Motion Picture Association.  Mr. Williams served Quarles & Brady until forming the firm of Williams & Associates. Mr. Williams attended Arizona State University where he received his B.S. in political science with a minor in economics.  He has lived in Arizona for more than 20 years.
